Alex Rider Prime television series

Teenage spy Alex Rider is coming to Amazon Prime with a new television series this June. An eight episode series, based on the second Alex Rider novel, Point Blanc, will be available on Amazon Prime from Thursday 4th June.

Point Blanc begins with Alex being recruited by MI6 to investigate the mysterious death of his uncle, going undercover at a remote boarding school that claims to straighten out rebellious children of the super rich.

The series stars Otto Farrant as the title character; he has already appeared in BBC One's War and Peace and ITV's Marcella.

Anthony Horowitz, author of the Alex Rider series, said he was "thrilled" to hear that Alex Rider will be launched onto Prime Video. "This is such a huge, popular platform and feels like a natural home for the series. I hope that this is the start of a long creative partnership... with another 12 books ready to go!"

Stormbreaker, the first book in the long-running Alex Rider novels, was published 20 years ago and the latest adventure, Nightshade (Walker Books), has just been launched. The series has sold 20 million copies worldwide.

This is the second live-action adaptation of the Alex Rider novels, following 2006's Stormbreaker movie starring Alex Pettyfer in the lead role which received poor reviews. While the original film offered a more child-friendly version, the Prime Video series is said to offer a more adult approach to the novels.
